Getting those student loans paid off can be more painful than walking over hot coals barefooted depending upon who you talk to. The first step in consolidating student loan debt may indeed be damage control. The first step is to make sure you didn’t put any student loan payments on your credit card. The credit card companies may seem to be your friend when you are first applying for the card and not to be pessimistic, but we all know that they love naive college kids for much more than friendship purposes.

Simply making a list of all the payments you have to make, may scare you or it may help. In order to reach the goal of paying off the student loan debt you have to know what exactly that goal is. Taking copious notes and gaining all the information about how large that debt is indeed a very important step.

Essentially though I would trust an experienced attorney on these matters or an accountant. I know some people consider consulting an attorney and even calling one of them respectable is against their faith. Often times though, the professional will put you in contact with a credible debt consolidation agency. You can always do the searching yourself, but if you smell a scam than you can contact a private attorney or even the attorney general in your state to see if the company who promises to help you achieve debt relief is legit.

Of course there is the occasional honest, possibly too brutally honest college professor who will tell you to marry rich. That kind of strategy could consolidate your issues pretty quick as long as they like you well enough to pay things off for you. Or maybe you can look elsewhere within your family for the answer to your problems. Having a rich aunt or uncle leave you something in your will can never hurt matters. You can even hope that they will leave you a little nest egg in a tasteful way, it’s called conflict resolution through positive brainstorming. I’m sure they taught you some of those techniques in college, otherwise why else would you have all those bills to pay off?

There is always the power of prayer which will possibly help you find that wonderful paying job in the true field of your choice. They always say bad economic times drive more people to church. I would say paying off student loans can take a miracle, so a little church may not hurt.
